What an exciting time this week with the total eclipse in our area. We invited a few new friends to share the viewing from our backyard. Here are a few pictures Dave took.
The whole event encouraged me to create some art. So let’s talk art! I got out my resists and deColourant mist.
I use these yogurt cups as my sun. For the resists, I added them with a little water to spray bottles.
Then I just sprayed around the yogurt cup.
Once the fabric is dry, it needs to be ironed. When using deColourant it takes awhile for the product to work.
Here are the results. The first ones I used copper resist.
This silver resist I really didn’t like, probably because of how it sprayed.
Here is red gold resist.
This is the deColourant. I wasn’t happy with how it discharged. It may be because my bottle of the spray deColourant is old, but it also may be this commercial fabric I used. It was the backside of fabric that had a pattern on the front.ย I’ll try some other black fabric on my next tests.
Looking forward to taking these to the sewing machine.
Here we are watching and waiting for the total eclipse. It was the perfect day, even a tad hot, to view this event.
As the sun was being covered, it got cooler and the wind started to blow. I was really chilled and wanted to go in and get my jacket but decided to wait it out.
This is how it looked during the eclipse. It wasn’t as dark as I expected, and you could see the sunset in the distance. Birds were still chirping, but not as much as before. It felt a little unreal, very hard to describe.
Then the sun came back with the heat. It was amazing. These three new friends and fellow artists joined us. Angie’s daughter and grandson also joined us.

What a fun event to experience and share. Now to get back to creating!

Really awesome eclipse fabric art! Your creativity has no bounds!
I really like your experiments. I’ve never used that product. And it also looked like a fun day watching the eclipse. It didn’t get that dark in Louisville, but it definitely got cooler and dimmer and the street lights went on.
Dolly, Thank you!
Sherrie, Thanks. I’ve had the colored resist for a couple years and they have never been open. I’m still not happy with the black fabric I used and how the deColourant didn’t do much so I’m getting some new black fabric and see if that helps!
